I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. This has taken a couple of visits to complete. Either it has been too sunny or the wind has been too cold and strong. And when the weather was right, the clouds weren’t. But it always feels so good to head out of the studio with half a painting done, instead of with a blank canvas…
“Eel Pond 1892″, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8”, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD
In 1892 this was the northwestern most edge of Eel Pond in Edgartown, Mass. The southeastern most corner was and still is about where the houses stop on the left of the far shore. 120 years of storms and Nor’Easters have eroded away, opened, and pushed the eastern edge of the pond into itself. A small, sheltered anchorage for shallow draft boats is all that is left of the once large saltwater great pond…
“Sandplain Dunes”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.
I went off the path to find this location. The dunes were the highest landmark along this flat sandplain. As it went down, the sun gave its warmth and color to the winter landscape. I stayed out until I found myself working in the moonlight…
