"Hay Rolls, Moo Lane"

“Hay Rolls, Moo Lane”

“Hay Rolls, Moo Lane”, this is a larger painting, 9″ x 12″, oil on canvas panel. $1350.00 USD

(Please note that this is 9″x 12″, more than double my normal size.) Today, I returned to Mermaid Farm to buy some vegetable plants. As I was backing up to turn about, my eyes caught the shadows draped across the lane to the dairy barn. I stopped, jumped out and took several photos. Looking at those pictures when I got home, I realized this was my next painting. I drove right back, set up and grabbed the only canvas panel I had left in my case, except, it had a painting from another day on it. Curses, if I drove back home the shadows would be gone. I found my larger case in the back with this one blank panel on it and went to work…

"By Chilmark Pond"

“By Chilmark Pond”

“By Chilmark Pond”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel.$750.00 USD

This location was scouted in the fog a few days ago. With the sun out today, I guesstimated about when would be the right time to come paint it. I barely made it before the shadows engulfed the lane completely. I was correct in my assessment that it would be a happy subject to paint when the sun and shadows came out…

"Katama Opening"

“Katama Opening”

“Katama Opening”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

When an opening migrates along the beach to Chappaquiddick, as this one is, it is a sign its cycle is almost over and will soon close. There are long periods of no opening and plus or minus 20 year periods of substantial ones. I have seen 2 of each in my lifetime. Both openings wreaked havoc on the southern most tip of “Chappy”. This last one sliced off cliff and land moving the water’s edge hundreds of feet north. In this painting I am lucky to have found the opening visible from my vantage point…

"Chilmark Country"

“Chilmark Country”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I pulled over to make a cell phone call. As I talked, I became entranced by this sunny view. I enjoyed the scenery for another 2 hours routed to this spot…

"F P Farm Road"

“F P Farm Road”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

My muse drew me out to the end of the farm this evening, but I just couldn’t see what was there. I turned about, walking back to the van in defeat. No cow or horse, sheep or sail, just a totally flat, open landscape. Until I turned the corner as the sun came out for the last half hour of the day…

"Menemsha, Short Beach"

“Menemsha, Short Beach”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

Cold it was with a west wind. In the van I stayed to paint. The colors were quite wonderful as they all came into bloom with the setting sun. The fishing village off in the distance gave the landscape the finishing touch, barely there, but there all the same…

"Evening Wood"

“Evening Wood”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I love taking care of my friends’ cat while they are away. There are so many wonder views around the old family homestead. I had to stop while driving out and capture this one in the evening light. With my hood up to keep me warm and not making too many fast movements, I fit right with the turkey flock as they slunk in to their roosting pines. They paid me no heed 20 feet away from their launching lawn as they each revved up for take off into the tops of the pine trees. I felt, truly, like a fly on the wall as they trotted past me from all directions to get settled in…

"Old Country Road"

“Old Country Road”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

A quiet evening interlude, out of wind and sun, yet full of fall coloring. I drove past/through it twice before recognizing its potential. With autumn colors at their peak, it was difficult to make a single choice…

"Boat Launch"

“Boat Launch”, this is a small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

A quiet ending to a busy day. Even the mosquitoes had something else to do until the sunset…

"In To The Light"

“In To The Light”, this is a small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I scouted this area earlier in the day. When I came back with an iced coffee to start work, the long shadows from the trees disrupted my plans. Aimlessly I wandered, wanting some architecture and landscape views until I found this scene, light and dark, near and far, into the light…
