"At The Bend In The Road"

“At The Bend In The Road”

After yesterday’s painting, I had Rosa Rugosas on my mind. Actually not really on my mind but in my nostrils. To me they are THE smell of summer at the beach. Fishing last night I had to walk through a hedge of them going and coming. Today, as soon as I finished one of my many golf course commissioned paintings, I went hunting for beach roses. I think I excluded 10 or more sandy paths between the little bridge and big bridge before discovering this one. It was delicious standing out with setting sun warming me, no wind and the scent of roses all around as I painted the glistening light off the distant water. I observed a lone boater fishing for blues and was serenaded by 4 Oystercatchers as they flew low overhead from pond to beach loudly discussing dinner as they hovered slowly past…

"Light, Snow, Shadows"

“Light, Snow, Shadows”

“Light, Snow, Shadows”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

After the February storm, the sun came out. It warmed up enough to paint outside without gloves for about an hour before I had to slip them on. The sky was brilliant blue and the snow shadows reflected the blue of space above. It felt great to be out painting in windless winter air…

The sun was shining. Seas were calming down. Overhead swallows and dragonflies patrolled. A feeling of warmth overwhelmed my senses…

"Eucalyptus"

“Eucalyptus”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I had some extra helpers while working on this painting out on the farm. Two yearlings kept prancing up behind me and giving me nudges while trying to rummage in my canvas bag. It took me a few times before I realized the apple smell in there was too much for them. Ah well, sometimes it’s good to share my snack…

"Light On The Backside"

“Light On The Backside”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

A sweet afternoon of warm sun and breeze until the light air turned into wind and the sun, shadow. Upon reaching the van I found I was wearing 2 shirts, a fleece, a vest and windbreaker. But I was happy to have caught this image early, in the warmth of the day. I probably never would have considered this view if it had not been for the tumbling shadows on the hill side…

“Two Cats”

"Two Cats"

“Two Cats”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

A nice, almost windless, afternoon gave me a chance to set up out on Short Beach and paint this view. I had no expectation of finding catboats on moorings in this sheltered cove. At this time of changing seasons anything may appear around a bend in the landscape…

"A Little Bit Of Heaven"

“A Little Bit Of Heaven”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

It felt like completion to paint a spring scene in the same place I had painted an autumn one just months ago.The garden was waking up on it’s own. Daffodils were arising in and out of beds. A pair of Canada geese appeared to be housekeeping on the far side of the home. They kept giving dirty looks and wouldn’t budge an inch. Crows were not so secretly preparing hidden nests in the tops of pines. The squirrels were constantly scolding for the interruption of their safe foraging routes across the lawn. Amidst honks and quacks ducks kept landing and taking off on the pond below. A little bit of heaven right here in our midst…

“Shanty Shadows”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I was invited here for a short interview on Plum TV’s Morning show for this Friday. The if was, would I hang outside the Coast Guard Boat house and do a painting in today’s 30 degree weather and breeze, while they stayed warm inside interviewing their other guests. I think I did a good job for my part ! My down jacket and vest certainly helped… Just wish I watched TV so I could see the whole production…
