I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. I have been studying this area during evening hours until dark for possibly larger paintings to create. There are nice ways to get out of the wind here and great sky-dome sunset light. Besides sea and sky, there are other less obvious foils to play off between me and the horizon. Besides juggling, wind, tide, hour and image it is now the season to factor in biting insects as well…

I came near the harbor hoping for a sail to paint. This obliging boat appeared and reappeared a few times. She was capturing some good air. I was in the lee with enough breeze to keep away the newly hatched no-see-ums and mosquitoes. A very pleasant afternoon…

I drove right by this tranquil scene, the fog was so thick. When I rounded the bend in the road, I could just make out this boat. I turn about and was able to park and get this painting mostly done. Then I noticed car headlights going past getting brighter and brighter. Or was the evening getting darker and darker…

The joy of spring is that one never knows what to expect around the next bend, as the season turns toward summer. I had no thoughts of a sailboat appearing as I started this painting. Now I may start to anticipate sailboats as I move on to newer water views…

A rainy blowing evening sitting in my van while painting the rock strewn beach. The fog added mystery and the rain intensity of color to the scene. All was appreciated from the dry warmth of the driver’s seat with my easel in my lap…

At a new location (for me), I followed a path which wandered through a swamp and over a small stream or two. Then this clearing appeared on slightly higher, dryer ground. Emerging from the closeness of the swampy shrubbery walls of the trail to the openness of this space, made me appreciate the larger view this afforded. The tree trunks were like umbrella poles with their developing canopies overhead. A fog lingered at the edge of view, maintaining a surreal quality to the place as a stonewall laced along the back…
