"Split Rock, East"

“Split Rock, East”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

This is always a nice place to paint. The sun sets almost straight ahead in the winter, but now, in summer, this face of the rock gets light at the end of the day…

"Eastville Sunset"

“Eastville Sunset”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I was hoping for more pronounced thunderheads this evening, but they had moved on when I arrived. As I worked the sun came out from behind the cloud mass and added its magic to the scene in front of me…

"Summer Light"

“Summer Light”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

The clouds I came here to paint moved too fast. So I waited for the sunset coloring to appear. It, too, was over in a rapid crescendo of oranges and lavenders…

"Hay To The Barn"

“Hay to The Barn”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

As one of my friends said, I “have hay fever”. This field, with the barn at the bottom and the hay at the top, was too much for me to drive past more than 3 times today and not stop to paint. The color of the barn doors is just enough to energize all the surrounding greens. The late afternoon sun gives it extra drama as it rakes across the pasture…

"blank Cola Creek"

“blank Cola Creek”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

This little stream is known locally as blank Cola Creek. In the autumn when the leaves and acorns fall, a lot get washed into this water shed. Their tannin turns the water the color of blank Cola…

"Spring Hay"

“Spring Hay”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I am a sucker for hay. Whenever I see it cut and bailed, or rolled, I just want to paint it, to capture that fleeting moment from field to barn. After the work was done, the farmers left the hay rolls to be collected another day. I had the field to myself and enjoyed the view and air and light until the sun went down…

"Coming And Going"

“Coming and Going”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

One ferryboat went by me before I got the hint that maybe they were my subject for the day. It was nice to have 2 tries to capture each one as they passed by in the shipping lanes every hour or so…

"West Chop"

“West Chop”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I have been studying this area during evening hours until dark for possibly larger paintings to create. There are nice ways to get out of the wind here and great sky-dome sunset light. Besides sea and sky, there are other less obvious foils to play off between me and the horizon. Besides juggling, wind, tide, hour and image it is now the season to factor in biting insects as well…

"Trial Run"

“Trial Run”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I came near the harbor hoping for a sail to paint. This obliging boat appeared and reappeared a few times. She was capturing some good air. I was in the lee with enough breeze to keep away the newly hatched no-see-ums and mosquitoes. A very pleasant afternoon…

"Slack Tide, Fog"

“Slack Tide, Fog”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

There has been quite a bit of fog, lately. Ten minutes before I started this painting, it was sunny with good shadows…
