I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. As one of my friends said, I “have hay fever”. This field, with the barn at the bottom and the hay at the top, was too much for me to drive past more than 3 times today and not stop to paint. The color of the barn doors is just enough to energize all the surrounding greens. The late afternoon sun gives it extra drama as it rakes across the pasture…

I am a sucker for hay. Whenever I see it cut and bailed, or rolled, I just want to paint it, to capture that fleeting moment from field to barn. After the work was done, the farmers left the hay rolls to be collected another day. I had the field to myself and enjoyed the view and air and light until the sun went down…

One ferryboat went by me before I got the hint that maybe they were my subject for the day. It was nice to have 2 tries to capture each one as they passed by in the shipping lanes every hour or so…

I have been studying this area during evening hours until dark for possibly larger paintings to create. There are nice ways to get out of the wind here and great sky-dome sunset light. Besides sea and sky, there are other less obvious foils to play off between me and the horizon. Besides juggling, wind, tide, hour and image it is now the season to factor in biting insects as well…
