I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. “East To Lucy Vincent Beach”

Despite having a cold, I bundled up and stood on the cliff top to captured this view. It was a vibrant day on the waters edge with surf pounding and salt in the air. Just when I thought I was alone, figures appeared in black wetsuits far below catching some wild rides on their surfboards. Directly out from my location, I was surprised to see a few rafts of Harlequin Ducks. They were bobbing and diving in the heavy surf along this rocky point looking for crustaceans and molluscs loosened up by the weekend’s storm…

“In The Autumn”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

The temperature has been dropping along with rain and leaves as the color of the land slowly changes from greens, reds, golds, oranges, browns to lavenders and grays. The setting sun, although moved from north of west to south of west still casts its charm upon the unsuspecting evenings. Drab views attain a golden radiance at this hour, mostly unsurpassed in summer months. Sights, unseen in green, now come slowly forth as the backbone of the ridges, hills and vales appear. As we dream about our gardens past, the season shifts and we are thankful, once again…

It was very windy today. This little cove was the perfect place to paint and keep warm as the sun and temperature dropped. It brought back pleasant memories of summers past and thoughts of summer coming…

With the wind from the SE gusting to 36 mph from my right and the temperature hovering near 60, it was a charm being out there. And it was pure luck that this painting came back with no sand on it. Gratefully, it had rained and the sand hugged the ground without lofting. Some days things look bad but they all work out just right…
