“Ocean Road”

"Ocean Road"

“Ocean Road”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

The sun was shining. Seas were calming down. Overhead swallows and dragonflies patrolled. A feeling of warmth overwhelmed my senses…

"Surfs Up"

“Surf’s Up”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

I went back to yesterday’s location to paint a landscape view behind the dunes and cliffs. Not only was it not raining but the surf was so much more impressive than the day before. I abandoned my plans and concentrated on the seascape from the cliff tops…

“Out To Sea”

"Out To Sea"

“Out To Sea”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

It was a cloudy day with an almost unnoticeable sunset. The dusk colors were delicate as the blue went into purple then darkness. When cars drove by with headlights on and it ruined my viewing, I knew it was time to quit…

"On A Clear Day"

“On A Clear Day”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I have a commission to do a painting of this lighthouse and decided to do a small one for my daily piece as well. As I was packing up for the night, the Coast Guard Station Chief came out (that’s his residence attached to the lighthouse) and introduced himself to me. He was curious to see what I had done all afternoon. Then he made me an offer I can’t refuse. He gave me his cell number and said anytime I’d like to come onto the grounds and paint to give him a call. I guess I will try to do one or two more from different angles later in the fall…

"To The Beach"

“To The Beach”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD

These dunes can be a very menacing place from which to paint, mosquito-wise and people-wise. The hurricane must have whipped those little insects into soup as only very small, recent hatchlings came out to suck on me. And the beach goers, well they must have left this island or just had better things to do than come out on a warm eve and watch the sun setting…

"Brickyard Before Storm"

“Brickyard Before Storm”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

I have never painted here before. Almost 2 miles of hiking on a very humid day, uphill and then downhill one way with all my gear, seemed less and less like a good idea. Upon arriving at the look out point to find a nice breeze and incredible view, I allowed that maybe I had made a good choice. Walking back through the woods in the dark was another matter entirely…

"Goldenrod of Summer"

“Goldenrod Of Summer”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

This is a different view of one of my often painted subjects. The goldenrod in the sunlight and the creeping shadows helped to make a quite dramatic contrast…

"Right Fork Path"

“Right Fork Path”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD

I managed to get to Edgartown to paint, but was not thrilled with my planned locations. So I drove around and ended up by South Beach. There was a bit of a wind, but it kept my not so favorite insects away from me. It was also nice to be up on a dune to watch the sun go down…

"Stars And Stripes"

“Stars and Stripes”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD

My plan was to paint a boat in the Lagoon on the other side of the street, but the light was wrong. It was good to go on this side, though. With warmth with a pleasant breeze, it was the perfect evening to be out watching the harbor activity fade into night…

"Opening 5 Miles Out"

“Opening 5 Miles Out”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 USD

The day had been partly sunny and now partly cloudy. It was a tough choice of where to find the light right. I worked my way through 2 different wood lots until I decided on this long, distant view…
