"d'Affinois Brie & Friends"

“d’Affinois Brie & Friends”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

If I had known how good this brie was, I would have painted it faster and first! Or maybe sitting out for 8 hrs. under my hot painting lights ripened it more than usual and gave it extra flavor. Or maybe I was starving when I finished up!!!…

"Ruminating"

“Ruminating”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 US

The cattle rancher pulled out about 5 hay rolls for the live stock today. I couldn’t resist doing this painting after my afternoon walk through the pasture and seeing the lighting and positioning of this roll and cow…

"My Back Yard"

“My Back Yard”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 US

Sunset with the sun to my back in the barnyard at home. The cattle hadn’t seen me painting in their field in 6 months. They all had to huddle around me as I worked. Other wise I would have painted one or two into this scene…

"The Dynamite Shack"

“The Dynamite Shack”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 US

Most of the settlement of the Terlingua Ghost Town, when the mines were operational, happened in, around and below the area where the church is. The dynamite was kept up above and away from the living areas in that little shack up on the hill. I suppose being out there and so visible was a deterrent to any accidents or would be saboteurs…

"To Croton Spring"

“To Croton Spring”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 US

Sometimes, out painting, I can turn around from where I just worked and there is another great scene waiting to be captured on canvas. That was my luck at this spot. While my ears were still on high alert for the rustling sounds of bears or cats, I raced against the dying light to the finish…

"Mine Owner's House"

“Mine Owner’s House”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 US

This was painted right outside my bedroom at the Terlingua Trading Company, in Terlingua, Texas. The house is in partial disrepair and now, partial rehab and is made out of adobe. For all of WW I and part of WW II this was not a ghost town but a very lively mining town. The prized mineral was cinnabar, which was smelted into mercury. This was used in detonator caps during the wars until about 1945 when mercury was replace by more modern methods. Most of the 2000 inhabitants left Terlingua at that point. This part became a ghost town, until the arrival of the hippies in the 1970’s and it’s subsequent revival…

"Dove Road"

“Dove Road”, this is a Small painting, 8″x 6″, oil on canvas panel. $750.00 US

This is down in West Texas, about an hour out of Big Bend National Park in the middle of a 12,000 acre ranch. It is a record of the time of day and the exact place where I discovered I had a flat tire. I was very lucky that I carry a mini air compressor and was able to fill it to get me on my way. No one would have found me where I was. However, I did have to stop at the Border Patrol check point and do a refill to get me back to my hotel room in Alpine… And I awoke many flocks of doves as I drove back out of the ranch after sundown, hence the title…

"Last Night"

“Last Night”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

This is quite possibly my last Martha’s Vineyard painting as I will be packing and on the road for Texas from now until New Years. I may attempt a painting along the way, but sometimes the van has a mind of its own and just wants to get there quickly…

"Bluebird Happiness"

“Bluebird Happiness”, this is a Small painting, 6″x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I have painted the left side of this field and the houses and ocean beyond at least 3 other times this fall. (You can discover them on my website.) There are 6 bluebird houses set out in the grass and I have not placed any of them in the other paintings as I didn’t feel I could do them justice. The stonewall shadows have also intrigued me in the late day light. This evening in my wanderings about looking for today’s piece to paint, I tresspassed to the other side of the wall and my lightbulb went off. This was it. I raced back into my studio, grabbed my gear and many layers of clothing and gloves and painted into the twilight…Oh, and did I mention cold again?!
