I WORK EN PLEIN AIR, OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE… Welcome. I am back to painting again after a sabbatical that included a few pieces done for charitable fund raisers. I am continuing to make small, 6" x 8", landscape oils, but not every day. I am also working on larger pieces. Every time I finish a painting, I will place it here on my website. I have been watching this view for two months, waiting for the garden to max out with flowers and vegetables. It is not often one finds a simple white backdrop for emphasizing the middleground. The weather was just a step away from rain. So there were definitely no shadows to accentuate or complicate the scene…

The hay was bad this year due to all the rain. So instead of baling and trailering immediately to the barn, lots of fields had bales hanging around for many days before they were collected for mulch. This field, the site of the Agricultural Society annual fair in 2 weeks, had bales in it for 3 days. I enjoyed 2 of them creating a small painting one evening and a larger one the next afternoon…

I have painted this view before, but in the middle afternoon. It is quite different at the end of the day. The dark foreground gives a bit of mystery and adds drama to the light in the remainder of the painting…

The rain left off for part of the day and I drove over to White Rock Lake, a thousand plus acres of water on the East side of downtown Dallas. Some evenings the sky will turn to magic. If I am there then luck is with me. Tonight wasn’t bad, but sometimes the setting sun glints off the distant skyscrapers and…, well it didn’t this time. There will be other unique chances here by the lake again…

Sunset with the sun to my back in the barnyard at home. The cattle hadn’t seen me painting in their field in 6 months. They all had to huddle around me as I worked. Other wise I would have painted one or two into this scene…

Most of the settlement of the Terlingua Ghost Town, when the mines were operational, happened in, around and below the area where the church is. The dynamite was kept up above and away from the living areas in that little shack up on the hill. I suppose being out there and so visible was a deterrent to any accidents or would be saboteurs…
