"Black Point After Rain"

“Black Point After Rain”

“Black Point After Rain”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $595.00 USD

A heavy rain silenced all much of the day. Near evening, clouds cleared and a vibrant sunset put smiles on most faces. I ventured out and as I worked was defended by a large flock of tree and barn swallows diving and scooping up the multitude of mosquitos about at dusk…

"Blue Moon Sail"

“Blue Moon Sail”

“Blue Moon Sail”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I painted most of this a few days back and only now have had enough time in my studio to finish it. The evening was gorgeous and the larger ferry, “Island Home”, passed through the rising moon and my location here. Tempted as I was to place it in the painting, this catboat came sailing in as the light faded and I knew it was a better choice…

"Arboretum"

“Arboretum”

“Arboretum”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

The rhododendrons were still in bloom when I began this piece. I found it hanging about in my studio looking dejected. Today the sun was out just as it was when I started. A perfect evening to finish and a bonus, no mosquitos! I had fun playing with the field color and then adding the blue to the stones to pull out the shadows. A reverse of what usually happens in a landscape, the blue recedes the background and the green/yellow warmth of the field normally signals closeness to the foreground…

"Chilmarsh"

“Chilmarsh”

“Chilmarsh”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

This is a beautiful section of marsh around a small island as seen from the boat launch by Quitsa bridge. I used my artist’s license to remove a few objects to have an unobstructed view. I have been intrigued by this area for many years, but was never quite sure how to capture it until now. The late afternoon sunlight and resultant shadows add much drama to the scene…

"Ford At Mermaid Farm"

“Ford At Mermaid Farm”

“Ford At Mermaid Farm”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $595.00 USD

I came to get milk. The farm stand by the road was empty. I walked up to the dairy barn and returned for this painting…

"Butterfly Weed"

“Butterfly Weed”

“Butterfly Weed”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

Butterfly Weed in bloom was my excuse for driving around to Lobsterville to paint yet again. This area is one of the few rolling dune habitats which can be driven through. There is always some nice birding to do on the way as the dunes hold ponds and swamps between them as they slowly drain out into the West Basin marsh. Today was a Great Egret day with 5 adults and a juvenile fishing throughout the marsh…

"By Chilmark Pond"

“By Chilmark Pond”

“By Chilmark Pond”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel.$595.00 USD

This location was scouted in the fog a few days ago. With the sun out today, I guesstimated about when would be the right time to come paint it. I barely made it before the shadows engulfed the lane completely. I was correct in my assessment that it would be a happy subject to paint when the sun and shadows came out…

"Deere In The Barn"

“Deere In The Barn”

“Deere In The Barn”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. $595.00 USD

How many memories this old barn must contain. Cows, horses, chickens, raccoons, skunks, barn swallows, sparrows, doves, milk, eggs, hay, straw, grain, farmers, children, carts, tractors. The only tractor left seems to be a small John Deere riding mower peering out from the shadows within…

"The Followers"

“The Followers”

“The Followers”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

I have not painted at midday for quite awhile and this was a welcomed change. The weather forecast wasn’t very good for the evening. So I took advantage of this very pleasant afternoon. The sheep were absent when I began. It was nice to find them parading slowly back and forth when I looked up…

"Foggy Light"

“Foggy Light”

“Foggy Light”, this is a small painting, 6″ x 8″, oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

Fog is a wondrous phenomena. It can impart mystery, define distances, distort colors, and sometimes get you wet! I started this painting a few weeks ago, between then and now this was the next foggy day. I motored up to the lighthouse to polished off this piece. Then headed down to find and paint my next foggy image, which should appear here, tomorrow…
